KARACHI: Ali & Associates commemorated World Intellectual Property Day 2025 with an engaging and vibrant event at the National Academy of Performing Arts (NAPA), Karachi, uniting influential figures from the fields of business, government, culture, the creative industries, and law. This year’s global theme, “IP and Music: Feel the Beat of IP,” served as the foundation for dynamic discussions and memorable performances.
The event’s centerpiece was a compelling panel discussion, where leading voices from the music industry and intellectual property law explored the vital role of IP rights in nurturing and protecting musical creativity. The conversation focused on the pressing issues of copyright enforcement, licensing, artist royalties, and the broader challenges faced by creators in today’s digital landscape.
The panel discussion, moderated by Hanya Haroon, Partner at Ali & Associates, brought together leading experts from the music and creative industries. Panelists included Ahmed Zawar, Associate Director, Pakistan Repertoire at Sony Music Entertainment; Babar Sheikh, award-winning filmmaker, musician, multimedia artist, and academic; Kashan Admani, music producer and CEO/Founder of Dream Station Productions; and Hamza Jafri, Head of the Department of Music at NAPA.
The evening also featured live music performances by Jon Saville and Sounds of Kolachi, led by Ahsan Bari and paid tribute to legendary Singer Mohammed Ali Shyhaki.
For over two decades, Ali & Associates has spearheaded World IP Day initiatives in Pakistan, working closely with the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO), foreign diplomatic missions, and international trade bodies. The event concluded with a strong call for the development of comprehensive legal protections and support systems for musicians and artists in Pakistan.
